Support Local Restaurants, PLEASE.

December 3, 2020

This isn’t new just because 2020 has been such a garbage year, but local restaurants need us now more than ever before.

Last night on Instagram I posted about the closing of my beloved Alaturco in Ballston Spa, and it came as a shock to a lot of people.

Here’s a look back at some of my favorite meals there.

Vegetable Sandwich
Vegetable Saute
Cold Platter

Just a few weeks earlier, I noticed another favorite spot of mine, El Cilantro had stopped answering their phone and took themselves off all the ordering apps. I’ve continued trying to call and driven by several times, but it appears they have closed as well.

To say losing these two restaurants in Ballston Spa is devastating would be an understatement. Regardless of whether you live in Saratoga or Ballston Spa or anywhere around/between, losing two restaurants within a month of each other in a small town is tough. Especially when both restaurants offered unique, one-of-a-kind meals in this area.

I know I’ve been somewhat quiet since the pandemic really hit back in March and I feel terrible that I haven’t at the very least offered local restaurant highlights regularly using my platform.

But this is changing now. I’m motivated because I can’t possibly see another restaurant that I love close their doors for good.

Starting next week, I’ll be doing a “take out week” where I feature one restaurant each day and some of my favorite take out offerings from them. Who knows… this could extend through the end of the year. I’ve enjoyed PLENTY of take out meals since March, and it’s time I start highlighting them in a bigger way.

If anyone has suggestions/recommendations for restaurants they want to see me highlight, please leave a comment below!

In the meantime… ORDER FROM YOUR FAVORITE RESTAURANTS. Support local. Show your love. Because you never know how much they might be struggling (and let’s be honest, everyone is struggling right now!)

Happy eating! XOXO

Please let us know if you learn of a specific restaurant that is really struggling – like on the verge. There are so many in the area, that it’s tough to pick. I’d love to save them all!

Of course!! I’m hoping we don’t have to experience many (or ANY) more of these announcement posts of restaurants closing. Thank you for supporting <3

I’d love to! Can you let me know where I can find more info about the family-style take out?!

I think a lot of the Saratoga Springs eateries will be in trouble unless the landlords give these places rent concessions… they took a hit in the summertime without the spectators at the track..and some of these eateries make 40% of their ANNUAL revenue from the seven week meet. I live here..walk in town nightly (its my evening hike)…a lot of these places are virtually empty.
