Derby Parties 2017

April 30, 2017

With the Kentucky Derby just a little less than a week away, what are your plans for watching? I know I’ll be cheering while watching the race on the big screens at the National Racing Museum and Hall of Fame again this year as their guest judge in the food competition! But if you’re still in the dark with no plans and feel like leaving the cave you spent most of winter in (like me), here are your options for Derby Day 2017.

Derby Day Party at National Racing Museum and Hall of Fame

I’ve attended this event since its very first year, and I’ll be there again in a week celebrating not only this exciting race, but the history of horse racing in general. I love being at the Racing Museum for Derby Day – because if you can’t physically be at the actual race, you might as well be at the National Museum dedicated to the sport.

DETAILS
May 6th, 3:30-7pm
National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame
Fee: $25 -$85

Bulleit Derby Party at Bourbon Room

If you’re gonna get your mint julep on, I feel like a bar dedicated to bourbon is probably the place to be. Bourbon Room will have the mint juleps flowing, while also releasing a “rare” Bulleit Cask Strength.

2017 Derby Day Party at Prime at Saratoga National

The coveted Derby Day Party at Prime is super popular, with outdoor concession food items, beer, wine and spirits vendors as well as a jumbo-tron to watch the live race. Live music by Funk Evolution from 6-10pm will bring this party long into the night, so if you’ve got stamina and really want to celebrate, this might just be the perfect party for you.

May 6th, 4pm-10pm
Prime at Saratoga National
FEE: $25 Admission OR $95 VIP Blue Stone Tent Tickets

Kings Derby Party

If you love going to the Saratoga Race Course, you might as well celebrate Derby Day right across the street at Kings Tavern. Starting at 3:30pm, Kings Tavern will have Makers Mark mint juleps, beer sampling, food specials, live music, raffles prizes and much more.

The Barrelhouse Derby Party

As always, The Barrelhouse will be celebrating Derby Day by raising money and support for local organization, Saratoga WarHorse. They’ll be offering games and raffles as well as selling commemorative glassware with all proceeds going to SWH. Not only can you keep the glass, but you’ll get your choice of two free beers or a Mint Julep in it while you’re there, as well as discounts on drinks for the whole party. Glasses are $15 each or two for $20.

15 Church Kentucky Derby Party on the Patio

Another annual event, 15 Church will be kicking off patio season with the Kentucky Derby Party. This private event includes unlimited open bar (4-7pm), appetizers and hors d’oeuvres served from 4-5pm, dinner buffer beginning at 5pm, followed by their famous Zeppole station. With limited availability, a reservation is definitely needed.

Salt & Char Kentucky Derby Celebration

New kids on the block, Salt & Char will be open this year for the first time for the Kentucky Derby. With no cover, a specialty (woodford) julep cocktail list ($10), bourbon inspired cuisine, and a complimentary copper cup with the purchase of a julep, this sounds like a pretty great deal to me. There will also be a $200 gift card raffle to derby winners and a “Running of the Roses” Rose garment for yours to keep, wear and parade around town.
