In Loving Memory

October 25, 2016

Carly

I want to apologize for being so silent recently. It was never my intention to put aside my food writing for anything, but that all changed a week ago.

Last Monday, I learned that my dog of 11 years was suffering from kidney failure, and had a week or less to live.

For anyone who hasn’t learned this about me, I am a big time dog lover, and my cocker spaniel Carly was most definitely the light of my life. A surprise 16th birthday gift that my mom selflessly got for me to help deal with the loss of our first family dog, Carly was my first dog that I cared for completely. She was my responsibility to train, feed, love and take care of.

She was the original food fanatic, loving everything delicious she could get her paws on.

On Saturday, October 22nd, I had to say goodbye to her, and it has certainly been the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to do – then and every day since.

While I miss her more and more each day, I am relieved she’s no longer in pain, and can enjoy all of the most delicious treats that heaven has to offer her.

The purpose of this article isn’t to make anyone sad, but if you have a pet at home, hug them close tonight. Even though this blog is primarily about food, I couldn’t let this painful and heartbreaking time in my life go by without writing a tribute post to my best friend in the whole world.

Rest in peace, Carly. I love you, my little babe! I’ll see you again.

I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s never an easy decision but you did the right thing. We had to do the same for one of ours a few months ago.

A pet’s unconditional love and friendship are amazing. Saying goodbye stinks and is terribly painful. I am so very sorry for your loss.

My family lost two dogs this past year and nothing is worse. My thoughts are with you during this terrible time. Do what you need to help yourself go on.

Now go out and rescue one that needs someone like you. You might not be ready, but your next dog is. Sorry for your loss.
