Healthy Living Market Partners with Seventh Generation to Support the US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants

Two Iconic Vermont Companies Join Forces to Help New Americans Make the Transition to a Better Life

Burlington, VT (April 6, 2016)— Healthy Living Market & Cafe have partnered up with fellow Vermont company Seventh Generation on a fundraising campaign to provide both donations and much-needed household supplies to the Albany, NY and Burlington, VT chapters of the US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI). The fundraising is already well underway as both Healthy Living store locations in Saratoga Springs, NY and Burlington have been raising dollars through guest donations since February with a successful front-end fundraiser. The campaign will run through the end of April with its grand finale being a household supplies drive and fundraising event hosted in both stores. The Saratoga store will host on Monday, April 25th while Burlington will have theirs on Thursday, April 28th (both from 9am to 1pm).

Committed to enriching its local community through clean eating, fundraising and education, the family-owned natural supermarket felt that the USCRI was an organization that they could support on many levels. One of the main goals of these local USCRI chapters is to serve uprooted refugees and immigrants by easing the transition into their new communities through welcome programs that include donated items such as household supplies. Healthy Living listened to the group’s’ needs and brought on their friends at Seventh Generation to donate a myriad of products including eco-friendly all-purpose cleaners, laundry detergent, hand soap, diapers and more.

“Healthy Living is proud to support the USCRI’s efforts in both our stores, and we are excited to have fellow Vermont company Seventh Generation on board with us,” said Eli Lesser-Goldsmith, Co-Owner of Healthy Living. “Our community has given us so much that we believe giving back, especially to those in need, is extremely important.”

“Everyone deserves access to products that are safe for their homes, families and the planet,” said Ashley Orgain, Mission Advocacy Manager at Seventh Generation. “We’re thrilled that we could partner with Healthy Living to help give these families a clean start.”

During the drive, guests who would like to participate can easily donate cleaning supplies by picking up one of the ten or twenty dollar to-go bags filled with household items available in-store. Once they are done shopping, it’s as easy as ringing the bag up at the register and dropping it off at one of the donation bins at the exit. The front-end fundraiser, where guests are asked to support the cause by rounding up their totals to donate the difference, will also be running in both Healthy Living locations until the end of April.

“We are excited and grateful to partner with Healthy Living Market and Seventh Generation to raise funds and household goods for new members of the Burlington, VT and Albany, NY communities,” said Amila Merdzanovic, Director OF USCRI/VRRP. “Refugees and immigrants greatly appreciate the support of the community and being welcomed eases their transition into American life.”
