Halloween Treats Made at Home

October 31, 2013

Finally, it’s Halloween! After weeks of anticipation, the day is finally here.

Whether you love this holiday to dress up, dress your kids up, or just need an excuse to eat too much candy and get a sugar high, today is the day to do it.

While many of you are probably scrambling to get your costumes ready or you’re too hungover from watching the Boston Red Sox win the World Series last night, I don’t want any of you to forget about all the awesome treats you can prepare right at home for this spooky holiday.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Candy apples

Caramel Apples

I’m sure many of you still have some apples sitting in the fridge from your apple picking this fall, and hopefully many of you saw my post on National Caramel Apple Day to know that these sweet treats are simple and easy to make at home.

You can go traditional, or you can go wild and even make a Halloween themed apple. Whatever you do, just remember – it’s an apple underneath, so it’s gotta have some sort of nutritional value, right?

Rice Crispy Treat

Another great easy and quick treat to make is the traditional rice crispy treat.

So what exactly makes this festive? All you need is some orange food coloring and a little creativity and you’ll feel like you’re 7 again, molding your rice crispy treat into whatever you want!

From a witch to a pumpkin, there’s plenty of shapes that go along with Halloween.

Homemade Peanut Butter Cup

Finally, Halloween is the one day a year that a sugar overload is almost justifiable, so go wild and make your own homemade candy.

One of my favorite candies to make at home is the homemade peanut butter cup.

Chocolate and peanut butter together? It’s a match made in heaven, and there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be consuming this combo all day long.

Don’t be discouraged by the idea of making a classic candy at home either, because if I can make it, I promise you can too!

Whatever you decide to make – good luck! And I hope everyone has a happy and safe Halloween!
