Farm Aid 2013 at SPAC

September 22, 2013

It’s actually really difficult to start an article after being so moved and inspired by such a talented group of people so passionate about a specific mission. To be honest, I can hardly organize my thoughts because I have so much to say.

Yesterday I spent my day 100% engrained in supporting and celebrating the beautiful and fantastic farms that surround us in New York State at Farm Aid 2013.

Starting off my day, I sat in the audience at the Farm Aid press conference at Spa Little Theatre and listened as the Farm Aid board members, which just happen to be the concerts headliners, spoke about what Farm Aid is all about and the difference this movement really can make.

As the moderator asked pertinent questions about the history of this movement, the board members’ stories with regards to Farm Aid and how the movement is impacting family farmers, it really put things in perspective for me.

What was really moving was how passionate each of these board members are about the Good Food Movement. While I’m already totally on board with their message, especially to today’s youth, it’s still alarming to me how few people I know genuinely care about these efforts.

A great article from Huffington Post was published yesterday afternoon by Willie Nelson which further helps to spread his message about the NEED for more family farmers in America and WHY this is so important for our future.

During the press conference in the morning, there were quite a few quotes that really stood out to me, from each of the artists up on stage. Here are two great ones from Neil Young and Dave Matthews:

From this, what I’m hoping to do is to get this message out in front of my younger readers, the ones who might not be as critical about knowing what they’re eating and who they’re supporting when they’re purchasing food. It’s so important to be aware of these issues today and to know that if we don’t continue supporting these local, family farmers, the future of our food will be in a very, very bad place.

I’m not yet done with this topic. Because it’s an on-going movement and it’s something that I’m dedicated to spreading the word about. Please help join me in spreading the word about the Good Food Movement in whatever way you can!

Here are some more highlights from the concert…. <3
